Vase & Vinyl Acrylic Pour #1

I tried something new this week — an acrylic pour over a thrifted vase and vinyl record. This is such a fun project, and this technique produces beautiful results!

I am an absolute beginner at this, so if I can do this, you can, too! You have to be willing to get messy and you need to be open to unpredictable, unexpected results. If you can let go and dive it, you’ll be surprised at what you can create.

I walk you through the steps on this video. If you watch this and have any questions, just leave a comment and I’ll be sure to get back to you.

This technique requires a glass vase, a vinyl record, pre-mixed acrylic pouring paints, a resin for the glossy finish. The brand I used is called ArtResin, which is extremely easy to use when you follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Acrylic pours are extremely forgiving. If you don’t like what you see, just pour right over it and get an entirely new design. I love that each project you make becomes completely unique and one-of-a-kind. The color and pattern in this pour is stunning with streaks of gold, mint, black and orange. Any way you turn the vase, you get a completely new design to look at.

After applying the resin coat, I let the vase dry upside down on a cup (so the lip of the vase didn’t get stuck to the table). The resin did form little “drip bumps” as it hardened. I did go and swipe the bumps away every hour or so, but I still ended up with some subtle clear bumps on the rim. I could sand those down, but they don’t bother me, so I plan to leave them as-is. The resin coating makes this vase completely waterproof, so you can fill it with water and flowers with no worries about damaging the paint.

The record catches all of the paint that was poured on the vase. You would think all of that dripping paint would create a muddy mess, but in reality, you end up with this stunning piece. To turn it into a clock, simply drill the center hole just a little bit wider to fit the clock mechanism (which you can easily find online).

I also coated the record with resin to make it more durable and to really allow the brilliant colors and designs to pop. This clock is ready to hang on the wall, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the results!
