Quilted Wallet Folder
I’m excited to introduce a brand new pattern today! Meet the Quilted Wallet Folder — a sturdy little folder perfect for organizing odds and ends in your bag, holding your current hand sewing or paper piecing project, your cash, keys, chapstick and more!
The Quilted Wallet Folder comes in 2 sizes: Regular 8” x 12”, and a Mini 6” x 8” (these are the measurements when they are opened). The closed folders measure approximately 6” x 8” and 4” x 6”.
I used the brand new Golden Poppies collection by Shaeleen Louis from Riley Blake Designs. I immediately fell in love with the Flowers print, so I made a Quilted Wallet Folder in each color: Black, Turquoise and White. I used Riley Blake Designs 1/8” Black Gingham for the accent fabric.
My mom passed when the baby in this photo was only 13 years old. I absolutely love this photo as it reminds me to cherish each ordinary moment we have with our loved ones.
The fabric brought back a fond memory of a family day trip we took to the poppy fields in the desert near Lancaster, California. We thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon looking at the flowers and running through the fields. It’s a day none of us will ever forget because after the fun, we all piled back into our large van and began the drive home.
As our van was crossing a sandy stream bed, the rear tires of the van became stuck. My dad rocked the car back and forth with the transmission, but nothing happened. Next, we all got out of the car and dug the sand away from the tires and put some brush in front of them, hoping to get some traction. My mom got in the driver’s seat, and my dad and us kids all got behind the car to push. The tires spun and spit brush and sand back at us.

It looked hopeless. My brother, Jim, who was ten years old, said, “Dad, should we pray?” My dad thought, “Why didn’t I think of that!” and he got the family together in a circle, kneeling in the sand of the stream bed. When we finished praying, my mom once again got in the van, and everyone pushed (Mind you, it was one adult pushing a large 9 passenger van with the “help” of a bunch of small children). The tires sprayed more sand, and the van sunk deeper, and it looked like it would be buried up to its axle – then, as we pushed, and my mom applied the power, it felt like Heavenly hands pushed that van up and over the sand onto the solid bank of the stream. Once again, we knelt in prayer, this time in gratitude for what we knew was Heavenly Father’s miracle in our behalf.
So California poppies are extra special to me. They are a symbol that miracles still happen.
And now we return to our poppy Wallets….I wanted to offer two sizes because once you adjust the size just a little bit, their purpose changes. This gives you options when making these for gifts — one person on your list might appreciate a larger pouch for wellness items such as face masks, cough drops, hand sanitizer, etc. Or as a place to carry hand sewing supplies. Another recipient might appreciate a smaller wallet size folder for personal hygiene items, epi pens, cash, gum, and more. So many options!
The folder is slim which makes it easy to stash in a larger purse, tote bag, or school backpack.
My pattern calls for mesh, however you could easily replace the mesh with vinyl.
The magnetic snap closure holds the folder securely closed and makes for easy handling.
Here’s a look at the smaller version — two pockets with zipper closures keep all of the little items in their place!
