Precut Parade - Maybelle Quilt

I am so excited to share this quilt with you today! Meet the Maybelle quilt pattern designed by Jessica Dayon! Maybelle is one of many precut friendly quilt patterns included in her brand new book, Precut Parade.

The pattern consists of two alternating blocks. It was a breeze to put together — honestly, I think I spent more time cutting than I did piecing the blocks!

You can follow Jessica on Instagram where she is sharing all of the details about her book, as well as quilts created by other talented quilters using the patterns in her book.

For my version of the Maybelle quilt, I used fabrics from the Maple collection designed by Gabrielle Neil for Riley Blake Designs. This pattern calls for a rolie polie, along with a few other complimentary prints. I absolutely LOVE the fabrics in this collection!

The color palette has an "elegant fall" vibe to it, pairing peaches and plums with chartreuse and rust. The artistry is simply dreamy with layered leaves, tiny flowers, and even miniature pumpkins!

It's always amazing to me how changing up the fabrics can completely alter the look and feel of a quilt. To the left is Jessica's version of Maybelle in her book. It has a sweet, cheerful spring/summer feel to it, don't you think? The warm, toasty fall color palette of the Maple fabric line completely transformed the look into a cozy autumn quilt. Now I'm ready to make up a holiday version just to see what that would look like!

This is why I never decided whether or not to use a quilt pattern based on the fabric selection used in the pattern. Always look at the design and ignore the fabric, because simple change in fabric can turn a quilt into a beautiful seasonal quilt, a child's quilt, a modern teen version...the list goes on!

The finished quilt is warm and inviting. The only alteration I made to the original pattern was to remove one row so that I ended up with a square throw size quilt. I say "throw size," but this is definitely a large, oversized throw quilt. I plan on using it at the end of my king size bed for a splash of color, and for something to grab when I need to cuddle up with a good book.

The borders do a beautiful job at framing the quilt. I used the purple Maple Fall print for the binding. This is the same print that was repeated in the churn dash style blocks that are repeated throughout the quilt design. I love how repeating this print in the binding pulls the whole design together.

For the quilt back, I used the purple Texture print available as part of Riley Blake Designs' Texture Basics collection.

I started to quilt this in an all over meandering design, but quickly changed to this random leaf motif. It isn't much different than the meandering design, except that instead of rounded curves, I created points. So, you can see on the second fold there are round curves, and then on the first fold, pointy leaves. Once the quilt was completely quilted, it wasn't easy to see the different styles, but they are there. I love experimenting, so I had no qualms switching up designs part way through and I'm excited to play around with more leaf motifs in the future.
