DIY Christmas Stockings with Piping Trim

When I first began sewing, I really wanted to make Christmas Stockings, but they looked so intimidating, and there were a thousand different patterns and instructions out there. It wasn’t until after I became more comfortable with sewing that I realized how very easy they are to make. Anyone can make these and they look so much nicer than store bought stockings!

The construction of a stocking is almost identical to a basic tote bag. You have the outer pieces and the lining. Same construction.

For these gorgeous stockings, I used the Stockings Fabric Panel from the Nicholas collection designed by J. Wecker Frisch for Riley Blake Designs. The artwork is seriously incredible on these.

The panel does come with instruction printed on it, however, there is always more than one way to do things, and I created a tutorial showing how I like to construct my Christmas stockings, with the option of adding a piping trim. The piping adds a classic, finishing touch, giving these stockings a lovely, timeless look to them.

For the hanging loop, I used this amazing red velvet ric rac. The ric rac was sold by Riley Blake Designs years ago and has since been retired, but you may still be able to get your hands on some. I love the texture it adds to the stockings.
